Why Choose Dr. Weinberg for Your Liposuction?

Because liposuction can involve significant shifts in the body’s salt and water balance and requires sophisticated medical equipment, your best choice is to have liposuction with an experienced top plastic surgeon like Dr. Weinberg at a recognized and fully certified facility like Mississauga Cosmetic Surgery Clinic. For the strictest attention to safety, Dr. Weinberg always performs liposuction in an accredited surgical facility or hospital and limits the amount of fat he removes in a single surgery.

How Does Liposuction Work?

Dr. Weinberg performs liposuction by infusing the area of unwanted fat with a large volume of tumescent solution that contains a local anesthetic and epinephrine. This causes the blood vessels to constrict, minimizing bleeding and bruising. It also causes the fat to swell, making it easier to target and remove.

Once the areas are prepared, Dr. Weinberg creates small incisions and inserts a thin, hollow tube called a cannula to remove the targeted fat cells. The procedure usually takes 1 to 3 hours to complete, depending on how many areas are being treated.

The benefits of tumescent liposuction include limited downtime, because general anesthesia isn’t required and there is very little bleeding and bruising. Dr. Weinberg may use general anesthesia in more extensive cases.

How Safe Is Liposuction?

As with all surgical procedures, there are possible complications with liposuction. While the risk is minimal, potential complications specific to your surgery will be discussed in detail during your consultation.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost in Toronto & Mississauga?

In the Greater Toronto Area, the cost of a liposuction procedure depends on the size and number of areas to be treated, as well as whether the procedure is performed under local or general anesthetic. On our Procedure Pricing page, we share the price ranges for our most popular plastic surgery procedures, including liposuction. A more precise answer will be available to you once Dr. Weinberg has had a chance to examine your treatment areas during your consultation.

What Areas Can Liposuction Treat?

Liposuction is the best procedure for reducing discrete pockets of fat. Dr. Weinberg has extensive experience body sculpting a wide range of areas using liposuction:

  • Chin: Addresses a double chin by removing stubborn pockets of fat in this delicate facial region
  • Neck: Diminishes neck fat and sagging (turkey neck)
  • Upper arms: Removes loose, hanging skin resulting from aging or weight loss
  • Abdomen: Treats stubborn, unwanted pockets of fat, including “belly pooch”
  • Hips, thighs, and knees: Targeted fat removal to balance your body contours
  • Buttocks: Reduces “banana rolls” and sculpts and firms the buttocks region

Can You Get Liposuction on Your Neck?

Dr. Weinberg specializes in liposuction of the neck, offering patients a long-lasting, significant improvement in their profiles. Fat can accumulate in the neck beneath the chin and jaw, causing the appearance of a double chin. This can make you look overweight even if you’re not. The aging process can also contribute to neck sagging, often described as “turkey neck,” which can make you feel self-conscious. Tumescent liposuction using a small cannula is a safe and effective way to reduce stubborn pockets of fat from the neck and can be an ideal turkey neck removal/treatment option.

Neck liposuction is an excellent and cost-effective alternative to a neck lift, especially for younger patients whose skin is firm and resilient. Patients may also want to ask about BELKYRA™ injections for a nonsurgical way to reduce the fat that causes the appearance of a double chin.

Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your results may vary.

Your Liposuction Procedure

Most of our liposuction patients opt to have their procedures performed at our clinic because they appreciate the personal attention of our registered nurses and the pleasant environment of our private facility. However, because Dr. Weinberg served as Division Head of Plastic Surgery at Trillium Health Centre for more than 15 years, arrangements can easily be made for those patients who may wish to have their procedure in the hospital, such as those having large volumes of fat removed or patients with significant health issues.

Liposuction Recovery

Depending on the amount of fat removed and the number of locations treated, patients may return to work within 24 hours to a week or 2 after surgery.

While every patient is unique, most liposuction patients can expect the following during the healing process:

  • Bruising is usually gone within 1 to 2 weeks
  • Swelling may take up to 6 months to resolve entirely
  • For liposuction of the abdomen, hips, buttocks, or thighs, wearing a support garment such as Spanx® post-operatively is suggested for at least 1 to 2 days to control swelling and provide support
  • Most patients can return to exercise and other strenuous activities within 2 to 4 weeks

Commonly Combined Procedures

Liposuction is often called “liposculpture” because when it is performed by an experienced surgeon such as Dr. Weinberg, the technique is used to sculpt the contoured appearance patients want. The best liposuction surgeons can perform your procedure along with other cosmetic surgery procedures to fine-tune the results. Dr. Weinberg commonly combines liposuction with the following procedures:

When patients undergo a Brazilian butt lift procedure, liposuction is also involved. Dr. Weinberg harvests fat from an unwanted area using liposuction and, after processing it to remove impurities, re-injects the fat into the buttocks.

Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

You may benefit from liposuction if you are in good overall health and want to eliminate pockets of fat that remain even though you exercise and have healthy eating habits. Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure. An ideal liposuction candidate is no more than 10 to 20 pounds overweight and has realistic expectations about the potential results.

Liposuction FAQs

Is the surgery painful?

Typically, liposuction patients are placed under general anesthesia; therefore, the treatment is not painful. You may experience some initial discomfort following your procedure, but Dr. Weinberg will provide guidance to help manage your symptoms and ease your healing and recovery.

Do I really need to wear a compression garment following liposuction surgery?

Yes, a compression garment provides the necessary support and helps minimize swelling in the treated areas. We’ll advise you on how long you need to wear it, but this is usually dependent on the amount of fat removed.

How long will liposuction results last?

The fat cells removed by liposuction will never be replaced, so in that sense, results last indefinitely. Your body will maintain a slimmer, more contoured look if you maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise and a nutritious diet. Liposuction doesn’t halt the body’s aging process, of course, and natural changes to your body’s shape will occur gradually.

Will I have scars after liposuction?

The cannulas used for liposuction are very small, requiring only tiny incisions that don’t typically require sutures. Depending on how your skin heals, you may have very small, almost undetectable scars from these, but often they are hidden in natural skin folds.

Are there less invasive alternatives to liposuction?

Dr. Weinberg offers CoolSculpting® as an alternative, which uses intense cold to freeze fat cells.
