Your Lip Augmentation Treatment

Lip augmentation is a nonsurgical treatment performed by a skilled nurse injector or plastic surgeon using injectable fillers. Some of the most popular fillers we use for lip augmentation are JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® and Restylane® Kysse. These hyaluronic acid (HA)-based injectable fillers are designed to stretch and move with your skin, resulting in fuller, enhanced lips that still move as you speak and make facial expressions. Depending on your natural lip size and shape, and how much of an augmentation you want, treatment may require as little as half a syringe of filler, or as much as two syringes, though a single syringe is typical. Younger faces can usually accommodate a larger augmentation, while more mature patients often need only a tweak to restore and balance their lip size to harmonize with the rest of their facial anatomy.

Depending on your aesthetic needs and goals, our expert nurse injectors can help you achieve the appearance you want so that you still look like yourself, only better. We can enhance the Cupid’s bow to improve the lip shape, define the vermillion border of your lips to add volume and fullness to the lips and fill in the lines above the lips, and even fill and lift the corners of the mouth to restore a more youthful appearance.

Many patients with small lips desire more ”roll out” of the upper lip, which can be achieved with the Russian Lip Technique, and also enhanced by adding a “lip flip” technique.

For those looking for an extra pouty appearance, the Keyhole Lip style of injection can be used.

If you are looking for  general added volume and balance in your lips,  to improve the overall proportions of your face our cosmetic nurses can help with that as well. Our focus is on helping you achieve beautiful results that look balanced and natural.

Combining Lip Augmentation with Other Procedures

We often combine lip augmentation with anti-aging prescription wrinkle injections using treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers to enhance the appearance of the cheeks and fill in fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck.

Lip augmentation helps to enhance your overall appearance, and can also be combined with laser skin resurfacing treatments like an IPL photofacial to give you glowing, fresh skin.

Lip Augmentation FAQs

Do lip injections hurt?

At our Toronto and Mississauga cosmetic surgery clinics, our cosmetic nurses have developed methods of making your lip injection as painless as possible. To ensure your comfort, we use topical numbing agents and ice to reduce discomfort and swelling during and after your lip augmentation treatment.

Also, the injectable fillers we use for lip augmentation, including JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA, contain numbing agents to quickly and effectively enhance the appearance of the lips while ensuring your comfort during your lip injection treatment.

How long do the results of lip augmentation last?

Your lip augmentation results will depend on several factors. Most patients see results of JUVÉDERM and Restylane dermal fillers for up to 12 months, while some can last up to 24 months. The amount of filler used, and the patient’s metabolism also have an effect on how long results last.

Since dermal fillers used for lip augmentation contain hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally-occurring compound in the body, your body metabolizes the HA over time, removing it from the body.

What is recovery from lip augmentation like?

There is usually no downtime associated with lip augmentation, but you may experience some swelling and bruising initially. We recommend using ice to treat these side effects for the first 24 hours. It takes a few days for your full results to appear, but the effects of dermal fillers are immediate, so you will see fuller, more enhanced lips immediately after treatment.
