You probably already know what a Mommy Makeover is: a surgery that combines multiple procedures, typically breast enhancement, tummy tuck, and liposuction. But here at my Toronto-based practice, many patients are pleasantly surprised that the surgery also has some other benefits, too.

Here are 4 other things the surgery can treat:

  1. Fat around the body: Most people associate liposuction with larger areas of fat, such as the abdomen or thighs. But liposuction is actually quite versatile and can also be used on smaller areas of the body, such as the neck, calves, and ankles. This area tends to accumulate unwanted, stubborn fat during pregnancy, and they can be easily treated in a Mommy Makeover.
  2. Stretch marks: Because tummy tuck surgery removes excess skin along with fat, it also often has the ancillary benefit of removing stretch marks. These telltale stripes are actually small tears in the skin that the body cannot repair naturally. They occur when the skin expands quickly, such as during pregnancy or weight gain. Although they’re common, they make many people feel quite self-conscious — making tummy tuck surgery doubly appealing.
  3. C-section scars: In the same vein, tummy tuck surgery can also remove C-section scars. These can be vertical or horizontal lines on the lower abdomen. Although a tummy tuck creates a scar of its own, it’s usually placed lower than a C-section scar, making it virtually invisible in clothing and swimwear.
  4. Dull skin: Don’t forget that a Mommy Makeover is fully customizable. Although most patients have the surgery to rejuvenate their body and breasts, it’s quite common to add a skin rejuvenation procedure, too. My patients often say that they see a lot of skin changes after pregnancy, whether it’s due to hormones, lack of sleep, or aging. These non-surgical options can put the finishing touches on any Mommy Makeover for a lovely glow to complement your beautiful new body.
