What are Skinboosters?

The term “skinboosters” has evolved to mean treatment with a Hyaluronic Acid product that is injected into the skin to improve skin health and appearance. Akin to dermal fillers, skinboosters are different in that they are injected superficially and are not used for volumizing effect, but rather to reduce fine lines and crepiness, scars, and irregularity and dryness.

Why Are Skinboosters Referred to as “Internal Moisturizer?”

Hylaruonic Acid molecules are highly “hydrophilic,” meaning they attract and hang onto moisture. When injected into skin, HA therefore improves the moisture content of skin from inside, not just on the surface.

How Does a Skinbooster Treatment Differ from Treatment with Dermal Filler?

Unlike dermal fillers, skinbooster products are often non-cross-linked. This makes it possible to inject these into the superficial layers of skin without producing lumps. Whereas dermal fillers are designed to address overall volume loss in supportive tissues underneath the skin, plumping up hollows, and contouring the face, skinboosters are designed to improve skin quality, promote collagen deposition, and add smoothness and sheen. Skinbooster treatments can be done together with dermal filler treatments to address multiple concerns.

Do Skinbooster Products Contain Anything Other than HA?

What Can I Expect from a Skinbooster Treatment? How long does it take? Is there Any Downtime?

Skinbooster treatments start with a cleansing of the skin and application of topical numbing to make the procedure easy and comfortable. After a few minutes, the numbing agent is wiped off, and the skin is treated either with a small needle, or a “gun” which can administer multiple small needle pricks at once. The procedure takes roughly 20 minutes. Immediately afterward there may be some redness, and the skin will initially exhibit multiple small bumps (a bit like “goose flesh”). These will fade in 12 – 24 hours. Over the subsequent days to weeks, skin will look and feel smoother and more refreshed.
