Toronto plastic surgeon discusses the changes in plastic surgeons turning to social media.

In the age of Facebook and LinkedIn profile pictures and video conferencing, plastic surgeons in Toronto and throughout Canada are seeing patients who say they feel more pressure to look younger and more attractive.

A poll conducted last year found that surgeons are seeing about a 30% increase in plastic surgery requests because patients wanted to improve how they appeared on social media.

I help relieve that pressure during consultations, explaining the possibilities and limitations of plastic surgery while listening to your specific cosmetic goals and your motivation for getting a cosmetic enhancement. And I encourage my patients to use social media and trusted online resources, such as RealSelf, to gather more information about surgeons and the procedures they are interested in having.

One of the advantages of social media outlets is that they allow plastic surgery practices such as mine to connect directly with men and women, providing valuable information that helps demystify both surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. We use social media to educate patients and give tips they can follow at home to keep their skin healthy and youthful. It’s also a great way to get the word out about specials we regularly offer at our clinics.
