Happy new Year form all of us at MCSC. Hope your holidays were relaxing, and that the return to a regular schedule is not too daunting. The holiday season was a hectic one at the clinic. Dr. Weinberg and Dr. Schiffer attended an exclusive symposium for the top injectors in the province put on by Medicis, makers of restylane, on Facial Rejuvenation. Dr. Weinberg was also interviewed for an article on skin care, which appeared in the late December edition of Lifestyle magazine. Don't miss it! It's full of lots of great tips for looking your best at any age. Copies can be obtained at the clinic. We also had a very successful, informative Breast Augmentation/Tummy Tuck evening at the clinic. Thanks to all who attended! If you or anyone you know might be interested in such an evening in future, please contact Diane at the main desk, and she will keep your name on file for our next event.

Procedure News!

As Dr. Weinberg is a leading expert in surgical Tummy Tuck Mississauga and Toronto patients can now benefit from his latest innovation, the "No Drains" Tummy Tuck. With the use of a revolutionary type of suture, this method of tummy tuck offers patients added safety and an easier recovery as surgical drains, mandatory in conventional tummy tuck, are no longer needed! See below for more details.

This month, save over $200, by taking advantage of our Eye Rejuvenation Package, and look after the oh so sensitive skin around your eyes. This is a telltale area that can really age your face if not well looked after. Your eyecare package includes a soothing Hydrating Facial, full of antioxidants and powerful moisturizers and emollients to plump up and protect dry winter skin, especially around the eyes where fine lines can be especially noticeable with exposure to harsh weather and poor humidity. You can maintain the benefits of your facial with Elastiderm, the eyecream wonder from Obaji, which has been shown in studies to improve the appearance of underye skin in a few weeks, both by moisturizing and firming the skin. It is thought to improve the elastin and collagen content of the skin due to it's mineral composition, and other ingredients including malonic acid and blueberry extract. AND, purchase this package and you'll also save an additional 15% off if you purchase any Glomineral undereye concealer or eye shadow, or off injection of Restylane for undereye dark circles or bags (so called "tear trough" injection).

The "No Drains" Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck is an excellent procedure for people who have had significant fluctuations in weight, such as with pregnancy, resulting in lax stomach muscles and stubborn fat that won't go away with crunches and diet. In fact, exercise and further weight loss can sometimes accentuate the loose hanging skin in the tummy area. A focal area of excess fat alone can often be addressed by less invasive treatments, like Liposonix (high frequency ultrasound fat reduction) or liposouction, but these procedures cannot address looseness of skin or poor muscle tone. Pregnancy, for example, often puts pressure on the abdominal wall muscles such that they are stretched and separated. During a Tummy Tuck procedure, both loose skin and fat are removed, and what many people often don't realize is that the tummy muscles are tightened and sewn back together. The procedure is often accompanied by liposuction to smooth out the area over the tummy and the hips.

Finally, the remaining skin is stitched back down over the abdominal wall. As part of the healing process after surgery one's tissues typically produce fluid which, in conventional tummy tuck, tends to accumulate in the space between the skin and the muscle wall where the skin was lifted and separated during the procedure. In order for this fluid to drain , plastic tubes called drains are usully inserted beneath the skin in conventional Tummy Tuck, and left in place during the intial recovery period, and are then removed several days after surgery. With Dr. Weinberg's new "No Drains" procedure, because of the use of a novel type of suture called a Quill suture during Tummy Tuck Toronto and Mississauga patients can enjoy improved results and recovery. The sutures have small barbs that firmly stitch down and adhere the overlying skin flap to the muscular abdominal wall. This has several advantages, including a firmer, taughter muscle repair as well as reduced surgcial time, which means added safety as any potential for complications is lessened when surgery is faster and shorter. It also means there is no longer a potential space between skin and muscle for fluid to accumulate, so there is no need for drains! This adds considerably to the comfort of the recovery period, making patients more easily mobile after surgery, and of course they do not have the discomfort sometimes associated with drain removal. If you think you may be a candidate for Tummy Tuck, liposuction or Liposonix treatment, call us at (905) 273-3045 and book a consultation.
