Women considering breast augmentation enjoy several options when it comes to selecting breast implants. Consultations at my Toronto and Mississauga clinic and most plastic surgery practices include a discussion of those choices, including how a patient’s unique body type and existing breast tissue could affect her results.

Virtually all women want breast implants that appear natural. Results are affected by a variety of factors involving the implants, including:

  • Size
  • Shape (round and teardrop)
  • Fill material (saline or silicone)
  • Placement

In this post, I review the breast implant options that provide the most natural-looking results.

What size breast implants will look most natural on me?

The most natural size implants will make your breasts in proportion with the rest of your body. Your surgeon must account for your breast skin, existing breast tissue, and the width of your chest when determining the implant size. Learn more in this blog post.

Are round or teardrop implants better?

Patients can choose between implants. Many women select round implants to get more fullness in the upper breast. But teardrop implants — which are also called contoured, shaped, or anatomical implants — more closely resemble the contours of an actual breast.

Which type of breast implant looks and feels the most natural?

The choice between cohesive silicone gel implants and saline-filled implants is one that also affects how the breasts will look and feel following breast augmentation. While saline implants are less expensive and require smaller incisions than silicone implants, patients typically believe that silicone implants look and feel the most natural.

What is the best placement for breast implants?

Where the implant is placed will also affect the breast’s final appearance. Having implants inserted partially beneath the pectoral muscles usually provides a more natural look. But women with enough existing breast tissue may choose placement above the muscle — called subglandular — without sacrificing natural-looking breasts.

How do I choose the breast implant options that will look most natural on me?

To find out what would look most natural for you, be sure to visit a surgeon with plenty of experience and a variety of breast augmentation options. It helps a great deal to have a consultation using VECTRA® 3-D imaging. I can use this special technology at my clinic to show you how you will look with several different types and sizes of implants, and different implant placements. It’s a great way to preview your results, so you can feel confident in your choice.
