Injectable Fillers

Injectable fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® in Mississauga can restore volume to the face, giving a more youthful roundness and fullness. These are safe, quick and effective alternatives for patients not yet requiring or ready for surgery. To get good results, you should be assessed by medical personnel experienced in evaluating facial anatomy and contours, and expert in treating patients with fillers.

The hallmark features of aging are loss of tissue in the face and, due to gravity, the descent of subcutaneous tissue. This results in hollows in the cheeks and under the eyes, deepening of folds around the mouth, and the formation of jowls. These facial changes can sometimes contribute to a tired, worn-out look.

To learn more about injectable fillers, call our office at 905-273-3045 (Mississauga) or 416-207-9090 (Toronto) or request an appointment online. Dr. Weinberg looks forward to meeting with you and helping you achieve your aesthetic goals.

Injectable Fillers Procedure

Hyaluronic acid is the chief component of Restylane®, Perlane®, JUVÉDERM®, and JUVÉDERM® Voluma®, a few commonly used dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical present in all our tissues, particularly skin and joints. It is a molecule that attracts water, and is therefore ideal for plumping up areas where we have lost tissue. Injectable fillers are administered by injection, and the results are immediate. On average, results typically last 6 months or longer, sometimes as long as a year. Areas best treated with hyaluronic acid fillers include:

  • Nasolabial Folds
  • Puppet Lines
  • Tear Troughs
  • Nasojugal folds
  • Prejowl Sulcus
  • Lips

From Mississauga and Toronto, our Restylane, Perlane or JUVÉDERM patients can achieve instant results. Injections usually take about 20 minutes. In some particularly sensitive areas, such as in the lips, you may choose to have freezing, but in most other areas discomfort is manageable with a topical numbing agent and simple ice. The comfort of filler injections has been enhanced in recent years, since many of the products are now manufactured with a local anesthetic agent, lidocaine, incorporated into the products themselves. As with any injection there is always a small incidence of bruising or swelling afterward, which is usually easily concealed with makeup. You can return to your usual activities, including work, immediately afterward.

Mature patients who have developed hollows under the eyes or in the cheekbones with age, or folds and lines around the mouth and jawline due to gravity, are excellent candidates for Restylane, Perlane and JUVÉDERM. In Toronto and Mississauga, younger patients can also benefit from a filler treatment. With injectable fillers, you can have the plumper, more defined sensuous lips you desire, and even prevent your lipstick bleeding into small lines that sometimes develop around the mouth.

Another novel injectable filler we offer is Sculptra®, or Poly-L-Lactic Acid. This is a synthetic material derived from fruit acids, and is biocompatible and biodegradable, meaning it is harmless to the body and is broken down and eliminated.

Sculptra works in a unique way by stimulating the body to produce its own collagen, and therefore results are not immediate and typically require 2 or 3 series of injections over a few months. Results, however, are long lasting, often persisting for 3 years.

Mature patients with multiple or large areas of marked volume loss in the face, particularly those with thin loose skin, are ideal candidates for Sculptra. It is also worth considering if you want a very long lasting result, or if you have been found to get shorter than usual results with other fillers. Sculptra cannot be injected into the forehead, lips or neck.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid has been used for over 30 years in dissolvable sutures and various types of surgical implants. It has been used for cosmetic injection since 1999 in 30 countries. Post treatment, patients are instructed to massage the treated area fully and frequently for 5 days after the injections to reduce the risk of small palpable bumps

Injectable Fillers: Cost & Related Procedures

Injectable fillers can be combined with other treatments for a more comprehensive rejuvenation. Soft Lift is global facial rejuvenation by the creative combination of JUVÉDERM and/or Voluma with BOTOX Cosmetic®. Other treatments that complement the effects of dermal fillers are chemical peels, and IPL. We also offer our patients a non-surgical face lift, which combines non-invasive treatments and reduces overall costs.

After Your Procedure

Immediately following your procedure, you may experience some redness or swelling. This will usually subside shortly. Results with injectable fillers can be seen immediately, and patients can return to normal, everyday activities after treatment.

Dr. Weinberg will discuss and answer questions about specific possible side effects and complications in detail during your consultation.
