Gynecomastia surgery (Male Breast Reduction) 

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in men resulting in a more female appearing torso. Male breast reduction involves a reduction of this tissue using liposuction and/or surgical removal of the excess fat and glandular tissue. Many men who have suffered from embarrassment and negative body image for years, are surprised and relieved to discover how common this condition is, and how straight forward the surgical solution is.

 Dr. Weinberg has a great deal of experience and skill in this procedure. It typically  takes 1 to 1.5 hours and is almost always done under general anesthesia.

The procedure is usually done at the clinic, but in patients 18 years of age or under, it is sometimes covered by OHIP, in which case it is done at Trillium Health Centre where Dr. Weinberg is Chief of Plastic Surgery. Additional risks include rippling or bagginess or skin, asymmetry, lumpiness and pigmentation changes.  

Patients are usually back at work in 3 to 7 days, and can return to exercise and other strenuous activities in 2 to 3 weeks. Any swelling and bruising resolves over 3 to 6 months. The results are usually permanent.
