One only has to stroll down the aisle of any major drug store or department store to be bombarded with advertising for a myriad of skin care products promising miraculous results. How do you choose? How can you sort through all the information out there and decide what’s best for your skin. At Mississauga Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, we can help make it easy. Any decisions about skin care should start with an in depth skin assessment with our aesthetician or registerd nurse, which is free, and will give solid scientifically based information on your skin type, what kinds of products can benefit you, and what results you can expect. Furthermore, a good skin care regiment should not be exhorbinantly expensive. Many department store products contain very little active ingredients, but are displayed in very pricey packaging, which is what you wind up paying for.

 At Mississauga Cosmetic Surgery Clinic Dr. Weinberg has carefully assessed the products we carry, and has only chosen treatments with a sound track record of excellent benefits. Many of these products contain large quantities of powerful medicinal ingredients, and can only be obtained in Physician’s offices. Some are meant to be used in combination with prescription medication. As a result, these products are highly corrective, and will yield very noticeable results. In addition to products that reverse signs of photoaging, and enhance the benfits of our in clinic procedures, we carry very effective lines for treatment of Rosacea, excessive dryness, excessive oiliness, and Acne. Products include those by La Roche Posay, Obagi, Biomedic, Sesderma, Vivier and Glomineral Cosmetics, to name a few.

La Roche Posay

A trusted name in skin care for years, La Roche Posay products are approved for use by dermatologists and Plastic surgeons everywhere. La Roche produces an extensive line, and while they are widely available, not all their products are carried in non medical locations. Their cleansers and creams contain significant percentages of active ingredients like Vitamin C, Lipo-Hydroxy-Acid, and Glycolic and Salicylic acid, with both scented and unscented options, all at very affordable prices.

Obagi

Famous for dramatic results, Obagi products contain high percentages of active ingredients, and are extremely corrective. The main Obagi lines are the Nu-Derm system, a transforming programme of skin care designed to reverse signs of photoaging, smoothing out uneven pigmentation, lines and wrinkles. The Professional Vitamin C System and C- Serums are designed to prevent photoaging and maintain skin health, while Elastiderm helps build collagen and elastin, especially in the area around the eyes.  Clenziderm System, is an exceptionally effective Acne treatment.

Clenziderm 

This anti acne system contains 5% liquefied benzoyl peroxide which has been shown to skin follicles in a superior manner to over the counter preparations, which contain benzoyl peroxide crystals.  Scientific studies demonstrate this high concentration kills 3 of the leading bacterial causes of  acne.  A visible reduction in lesions has been seen in the first 2 weeks. Th system has the advantage of simplicity and ease of use, as there are 3 straightforward steps. Step 1 , the cleanser , contains Salicylic acid and soothing menthol. Step 2 , Pore preparation contains 2% salicylic acid and alcohol along with menthol, and step 3 , the serum Gel, contains 5% benzoyl Peroxide.

Nu Derm

The obaji Nu Derm system is a very corrective line that is designed to address signs of skin aging, including wrinkles and laxity of skin, as well as mottled hyperpigmentation ( uneven pigment, brown spots) and sallowness. The system provides for great flexibility and  the components are varied to assist all skin types including normal to oily, Normal to dry and sensitive. It can also be helpful in adult oily skinned patients who are acne prone and can be administered in a gradual protocol, a standard protocol, a moderately aggressive protocol and a very aggressive protocol depending on the degree of correction needed. Patients typically go through a reaction phase, when there is a lot of cell turnover, and this can be accompanied be flaking and redness, There are products that can reduce this redness and be soothing during this time such as Obaji Comfort Gel.Patients then pass into the tolerance phase, and ultimately the corrected phase when the complexion is smooth  and even toned, without blemishes. Thereafter it is just about maintenance. 

Rosaclear

 Rosacea is a skin condition associated with flushing, often in response to alcohol or spices, broken blood vessels, and break outs.  The Rosaclear System  is one of the  few skin care lines specifically designed to treat this condition. It can be used with or without topical metronidazole, an antibiotic also useful in Rosacea. Containing gentle emollients and active ingredients like ASA, the Rosaclear cleanser and moisturizer have proven very helpful in this difficult  to treat condition.

Derma DNA Products By Dermaglow

 New to the clinic , the Derma DNA advanced repair serum has been shown in studies to reduce the signs of aging at the microscopic level. Researchers were able to show reduction in many of the markers used to measure cell damage, and they have shown clinical results, with reduction in the appearance of fine lines, and age spots, and improved skin texture and firmness. Many doctors have likened the improvements to those seen with Retin A. The repair serum can be used in combination with Retin A, Vitamin C, and most other skin care products, and is an excellent adjunct to everyone's beauty routine. Containing  powerful ingredients including peptides, Resveratrol and Teprenone, the advanced serum reduces oxidation, a process by which molecules called free radicals damage cells. It is well established that oxidation is a significant cause of skin aging and is increased with exposure to UV radiation. New scientific research indicates  certain peptides are very important in skin function and peptides are very useful in reducing age and sun damage related changes in the skin. Skin doctors now routinely recommend peptide containing products be added to any skin care regimen to promote good skin health.

Clayton Chagal
