Hyaluronic Acid is the chief component of Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm, the most commonly used dermal fillers. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring chemical present in all our tissues, particularly skin and joints. It is a molecule that attracts water, and is therefore ideal for plumping up areas where we have lost tissue. It is administered by injection, and the results are immediate, typically lasting 6 months or longer, and sometimes lasting as long as a year! Areas best treated with Hyaluronic Acid fillers include:
Nasolabial Folds = lines from the corner of the nose to the mouth
Puppet Lines = lines from the corner of the mouth to the chin
Tear Troughs = hollows under the eyes
Nasojugal fold = hollows in the cheeks
Prejowel Sulcus = Jawline
Lips = lip augmentation
Imagine having instantly fuller cheeks or lips, or immediately eliminating dark hollows under the eyes or deep lines around the mouth! With Restylane, Perlane or Juvederm filler, instant results are achievable safely and effectively. Injections usually take roughly 20 minutes. In some particularly sensitive areas, such as in the lips, you may choose to have freezing, but in most other areas discomfort is manageable with simple ice. As with any injection there is always a small incidence of bruising or swelling afterward, which is usually easily concealed with makeup. You can return to your usual activities, including work, immediately afterward. Hyaluronic Acid is completely metabolized and is elliminated slowly by the body, so the effects diminish gradually over many months until you return for another treatment.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Hyaluronic Acid Filler?
Mature patients who have developed hollows under the eyes or in the cheekbones with age, or folds and lines around the mouth and jawline due to gravity are excellent candidates for Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm. However younger patients can also benefit from filler. Have you ever wished your lips were fuller or more shapely? With Hyaluronic Acid you can have the plumper, more defined sensuous lips you wish you were born with, and prevent your lipstick bleeding into small lines that sometimes develop around the mouth.
Who Shouldn’t have Hyaluronic Acid Filler?
If you are pregnant or breast feeding, it is best to wait to have filler. If you take strong blood thinning medication like Coumadin, you probably should not have dermal filler. While lesser blood thinners like Aspirin, green tea and vitamin E are not absolute contradictions to filler, you can minimize the risk of bruising by avoiding these for a few days prior to treatment.
