Dr. Weinberg was recently interviewed for the article by journalist Nikki Yeh, and shared his insights.

Dr. Weinberg and Dr. Schiffer will be attending the prestigious Cosmetic Update meeting , Feb 17 to 21. This "invitation only" conference is for only the top 30 dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons across the country, and will highlight all the most current, cutting edge developemnts in the field of cosmetic medicine over the past year. Dr. Weinberg is proud to bring back this invaluable information to his patients. He has also been invited to participate in an important adboard meeting while there, on Liposonix, the latest non invasive fat reduction technology. Trends In Cosmetic Medicine - Botox and Beyond

In these recessionary times there has been close observation of the effects of the economy on the cosmetic medical industry. Several studies have shown that, although tight times have put a crimp in consumer spending, Botox sales , and those of other injectable treatments have held firm. A poll by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons showed 73% reported a stable or increased demand for Botox, fillers, and chemical peels. Similar results have been reported in Canada. Over 12.1 million injectable procedures were done in North America in 2008, and the number for 2009 are higher.

An article in the Niagara Falls Harold points out that part of the reason for this is the overall affordability of the procedure relative to other expenditures. They also point out the significant "bang for your buck' that products like botox and juvederm provide. People report an immediate sense of feeling refreshed, and enjoy the instant imrovement in their appearance that more laborious treatments can't provide.Increasingly , the psychologic benefits of cosmetic procedures in general has been recognized. With respect to Botox specifically, a 2007 study of clinically depressed patients who recieved botox for frown lines showed resolution of their depression when they were assessed 2 months later. A Welsh experiment published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatilogy followed 25 patiients, roughly half of whom had Botox, the others having other cosmetic treatments.The Botox treated patients had measurabley better scores on scales for depression , anxiety and irritability. It is postulated that there is a direct influence of facial muscles on the brain.

Another significant trend is the increasing use of Botox in a younger age group. People in their 20s are routinely using Botox , to prevent lines and wrinkles in the first place.The radio station CHML-AM recently did a segment on online dating , and the importance of first impressions. Instead of telling those little white lies about one's age with outdated photos, people were encouraged to make a great first impression by using Botox and Juvederm to obtain a younger more rested appearance. And now that "Soft Lift", combination therapy with Botox and Juvederm, has become a staple form of therapy ever since it was introduced last year, more and more people are turning to this particular form of treatment to turn back the clock with a very natural look and a more affordable price.
