Happy Thanksgiving to everyone from all our staff! Hope you all enjoyed generous helpings of Turkey and lots of family fun. Things have been busy as always at MCSC. This Fall Dr. Weinberg was invited to appear on Rogers Cable 10 Television in a live interview on the latest in cosmetic treatments, and spoke about restoring volume with Restylane, and with Juvederm in combination with Botox to achieve the famous "Soft Lift". The Liposonix machine, a revolutionary device for reducing fat in the abdomen, love handles and thighs with the non invasive use of ultrasound energy, has arrived, and Dr. Weinberg is participating in a clinical trial of at least 50 patients to treat abdominal fat with Liposonix. As many of you may be aware we have been actively recruiting patients for the study and have almost filled our quota. This Oct 15 to 18 both Dr. Schiffer and Dr. Weinberg will attend the prestigious FACE meeting, an invitation only educational symposium mounted by Allergan, makers of Botox, Juvederm and Natrelle breast implants. It promises to be an exciting and informative meeting.

Voluma Update

As many of you may know , a few months ago Allergan introduced a new Hyaluronic Acid filler to the market, Voluma. We have now had an opportunity to gain some experience with this new product at MCSC, and we're pleased to report some excellent results. Like it's cousin Juvederm, the main component in Voluma is Hyaluronic acid, a molecule that occurs naturally in the skin and joints. In order for this molecule to be long lasting in the skin when injected, these products undergo some alteration in the laboratory, specifically a cross linking process. Voluma is considerably thicker than other hyaluronic fillers on the market because of some biochemical differences. It is a lower molecular weight, allowing for greater cross linking. This results in a very thick, viscous product that appears in clinical trials to be very long lasting, as long as 18 months in studies. Injection technique is different for this product, as it is meant to be injected in the deeper layers of the skin only ( ie in the deep dermis). It is intended for use only in the cheeks and chin area. So far we have found it to be a particularly powerful tool for restoring lost volume in these areas, and it's tremendous thickness has meant great improvement in hard to treat "puppet lines" in individuals with significant skin laxity.
