Breast Reduction

For many women, large breasts are a source of back, neck, and shoulder pain. A breast reduction in Mississauga and Toronto can help with these problems, and may also provide considerable cosmetic benefits. Breast reduction surgery involves the removal of breast tissue to reduce the size. Because large breasts often sag with age or after breastfeeding, breast reduction will often restore a more youthful shape and create a higher location of the breast on the chest wall.

Depending on the amount of tissue to be removed, the surgery may entail repositioning the nipple, making the nipple smaller, or the addition of liposuction to achieve the optimal shape. Dr. Michael J. Weinberg has extensive experience with this procedure. He was even invited to demonstrate his skill in breast reduction surgery on the popular television series "Skin Deep."

To learn more about breast reduction surgery, call our office at 905-273-3045 (Mississauga) or 416-207-9090 (Toronto) or request an appointment online. Dr. Weinberg looks forward to meeting with you and helping you achieve your aesthetic goals.

Breast Reduction Procedure

Most of our Toronto and Mississauga breast reduction cases are covered under OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan), and therefore are performed in hospital, at Trillium Health Centre where Dr. Weinberg is Chief of Plastic Surgery. The procedure usually takes about an hour and a half and is almost always performed under general anesthetic.

During breast reduction surgery, Royal College Certified plastic surgeon Dr. Weinberg will remove excess fat, skin, and glandular tissue. In addition, the nipples will be lifted to a higher position on the breast mound. The skin of the breast will be tightened to create firmer, more youthful-looking breasts. As with all surgical procedures, there are possible complications that can occur with breast reduction. Potential complications specific to your surgery will be discussed in detail at your consultation. Breast Reduction Cost & Related Procedures

The cost of your breast reduction will vary depending on if you combine it with another procedure such as a breast lift, or combined with body contouring procedures including liposuction or a tummy tuck.

After Your Procedure

After your surgery, it is likely that you can return to work in 1 to 2 weeks. However, it is recommended that you avoid contact with your breasts for about 3 to 4 weeks. It is important to follow Dr. Weinberg's postoperative instructions to so you can heal quickly.

Dr. Weinberg will discuss and answer questions about specific possible side effects and complications in detail during your consultation.
