Implant Type

Women in Toronto and Mississauga considering breast augmentation should carefully choose which implant type and size is right for their preference and body type. Patients can enjoy all the options in the latest implant types as Dr. Weinberg offers:

  • Saline implants: These implants are made of an outer silicone shell that is inserted into the chest and then filled with medical-grade saltwater fluid.
  • Gel cohesive implants: These are constructed with an outer silicone shell and gelatinous silicone core.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both types of breast implants. Our Toronto and Mississauga patients can discuss the differences between these types with Dr. Weinberg during consultation.

Incision and Placement Options

Dr. Weinberg offers the following options for incision locations:

  • Inframammary: Underneath the breast fold.
  • Transaxillary: Through the armpit in the skin folds.
  • Periareolar: Around the edge of the nipple.

Implants may be placed above or below the chest muscles, and Dr. Weinberg tailors his approach to each individual patient to achieve desirable results, as well as well-hidden scars for the size of the breast implants. Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast augmentation is usually performed in about an hour and a half and is almost always performed under general anesthesia. Most women choose to have their procedure at the clinic and enjoy the personal attention of our warm, friendly staff, and the spa-like atmosphere of a private facility. Because Dr. Weinberg is Chief of Plastic Surgery at Trillium Health Centre, women have the option of having their breast augmentation in the hospital. As with all surgical procedures, there are possible complications that can occur with breast augmentation. Potential complications specific to your surgery will be discussed in detail at your consultation. For a discussion of general risks of surgery, review Dr. Weinberg's What to Expect page.

Breast Augmentation Cost & Related Procedures

The cost of breast augmentation depends primarily on the type of breast implant, and whether saline or silicone gel implants are used. Some cost savings can be realized when breast augmentation is combined with other procedures, for example when it is combined with a tummy tuck and liposuction as part of a Mommy Makeover in Toronto or Mississauga. Breast augmentation can also be combined with a breast lift for more extensive lifting and rejuvenation.

After Your Procedure

After your breast augmentation, you will be given a tensor bandeau to wear for 6 weeks to keep the implants from riding too high on the chest. While your implants will initially ride high, they will usually drop down into position at about 6 weeks. You should be able to shower the next day and will likely be able to return to work within a few days. Physical contact with your breasts may begin in 3 to 4 weeks as the breasts are usually sensitive to stimulation for the first few weeks following your procedure. Any scarring should fade within the subsequent months following your breast augmentation.

Dr. Weinberg will discuss and answer questions about specific possible side effects and complications in detail during your consultation.
